Tom Smith Wisconsin ArtistTom started his love of oil painting when he was given a set of oil paints as a kid. He always fancied himself an artist, but when given a choice between a college scholarship in art, and one in music, he chose music.

All these many years later he is still a professional cellist living in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, but when he left teaching in 2012, he decided to again pursue his love of oil painting. Since his last official instruction in art was over 30 years ago, you could call him self taught.

What he loves most is painting landscapes. He finds inspiration in the natural beauty of Wisconsin. In some of his paintings, he also incorporate the written word.

He may hide a small sentence or poem that you can find if you look carefully!

In the summer of 2016 Tom began painting “en plein air”. He has now participated in many plein air competitions and events, winning Second Place in the 2017 Cedarburg (WI) Plein Air Competition.
